1903 F. W. H. Myers Human Personality II. 264 That sensation of already remembering what is happening or is just about to happen, to which some authors have applied the too wide term paramnesia, but for which promnesia seems a more exact and distinctive name.
2005 Guardian (Nexis) 8 Jan. 23 The ubiquity of the phenomenon—known since 1903 as deja vu, French for ‘already seen’..(other word candidates being touted at the time included ‘promnesia’)—has given rise to several theories as to what deja vu really means.
