Etymology: < psychro- comb. form + -phile comb. form, apparently after German psychrophil, adjective (see psychrophilic adj.; the use by Fischer (see quot. 1906 at sense A.) has not been traced). With the noun compare mesophile n. With the adjective compare earlier psychrophilic adj., and also mesophile adj., mesophilic adj.In form psychrophil apparently after the German form.
