Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek πρόσοδος.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πρόσοδος approach ( < πρός to (see prosody n.) + ὁδός way: see -ode comb. form2), with the ending remodelled after Latin nouns in -us.
Zoology. rare.
In certain complex sponges: a short channel consisting of a slightly elongated prosopyle.
