Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: French priapiser; Greek Πριαπίζειν.
Etymology: < French †priapiser to have sexual intercourse with (a woman) (1564 in Middle French in the passage translated in quot. 1694 at main sense) and its etymon Hellenistic Greek Πριαπίζειν to behave like Priapus toward < Πρίαπος Priapus n. + -ίζειν -ize suffix. Compare earlier priape v.

intransitive †To have sexual intercourse; to behave lasciviously (as participial adjective in quot. 1648) (obsolete). Now transitive: (of a male) to have sexual intercourse with (a female).
