Compare postzygapophysis n., prozygapophysis n. at pro- prefix² 2a.In quot. 1851 at main sense, prezygapophyses appears to be an error for prozygapophyses , which was coined by Owen in the same paper (see quot. 1851 for prozygapophysis n. at pro- prefix² 2a). Prezygapophyses was, however, retained in the account of this paper in Abstr. Papers Royal Soc. 6 (1854) 11.

Zoology and Anatomy.

Either of the two (left and right) anterior or superior articular processes of the neural arch of a vertebra, which articulate with the postzygapophyses of the previous vertebra. Also: either of two anterior articular processes on the haemal arch of certain fishes.
