Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin acclīvis, acclīvus.
Etymology: < classical Latin acclīvis (also acclīvus) steep < ac- ac- prefix + clīvus slope (see clivose adj.). Compare acclivity n. Compare also proclive adj.Compare the Middle English variant reading acclyued in quot. c1450 at accline v. and discussion at that entry.
Obsolete. rare.
That rises with a slope, sloping upwards, steep; = acclivous adj. Cf. acclivitous adj., declive adj.In quot. 1616 in figurative context.
