Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French probabilioriste.
Etymology: < French probabilioriste (1721) < classical Latin probābilior more probable, comparative of probābilis probable adj. (compare -ior suffix2) + French -iste -ist suffix. Compare post-classical Latin probabiliorista (1756 or earlier), Italian probabiliorista (a1694), German Probabiliorist (1741 or earlier). Compare also post-classical Latin probabilioristicus (c1682 or earlier). Compare earlier probabilist n.
Chiefly Roman Catholic Church.
An adherent of the theory of probabiliorism.
