单词 primo
释义

primoadj.n.

Brit. /ˈpriːməʊ/, U.S. /ˈprimoʊ/
Inflections: Plural primi, primos.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Italian. Partly a borrowing from Spanish. Etymons: Italian primo; Spanish primo.
Etymology: Partly < Italian primo (adjective) first, principal (apparently from 17th cent. in musical uses; 1778 or earlier denoting a solo instrument in an orchestra), specific use of primo first (see prime adj.), and partly (in senses A. 2, B. 3) < Spanish primo first-rate, fine (13th cent.), specific sense of primo first (see prime adj.). With sense A. 2 compare earlier prime adj. 1a. With sense B. 1, which is apparently not recorded in dictionaries of Italian, compare earlier prima n.2 In plural form primi after the Italian plural form. It is unclear whether the following shows earlier use as noun, apparently in sense ‘chief, leader’ (compare Italian primo, noun (15th cent. in this sense)):1613 J. Saris Jrnl. 28 Feb. in Voy. to Japan (1900) 25 The primo Leuen Martson came aboard and broate me diuers notes of there proceedings in these parts.
