Etymology: < pre- prefix + tarsus n., after German Praetarsus (J. C. H. de Meijere 1901, in Zool. Jahrb.: Abt. f. Anat. u. Ontogenie der Thiere 14 423).
Zoology.
The terminal part of the limb of chelicerate and mandibulate arthropods.In insects it comprises either a single claw or a pair of claws, generally with one or more lobe-like structures below or between them.
