Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin prōmiscus , -ous suffix, -ly suffix2; promiscous adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: Originally < classical Latin prōmiscus (see promiscous adj.) + -ous suffix + -ly suffix2. In later use < promiscous adj. + -ly suffix2. Compare earlier promiscuously adv.
Obsolete.
