A bacteriostatic antibiotic structurally related to dapsone, used chiefly in the treatment of leprosy.Chemical name: p,p′-sulphonyldianiline-N, N′-diglucoside disodium disulphonate; C24H34N2Na2O18S3.A proprietary name in the United States. In quot. 1937 apparently applied to the simpler but related compound sulphanilamide.

1971 W. H. Jopling Handbk. Leprosy vi. 52 Dapsone..had the advantage over Promin of being much cheaper and of being suitable for oral administration (Promin has to be given intravenously).
1996 Economist 24 Feb. 80/1 In the 1950s..promin, an effective cure, became widely available, and researchers concluded that the disease was only rarely contagious.
