Etymology: < classical Latin prius something which precedes, logically prior proposition, use as noun of neuter of prior prior adj. Compare earlier nisi prius n.For earlier use of classical Latin prius in an English context compare the following:1631 W. Twisse Discov. D. Iacksons Vanitie vi. 167 God can acquire nothing: His duration ('tis true) is indivisible; For there is no prius nor posterius therein.
