单词 primine
释义

priminen.

Brit. /ˈprʌɪmɪn/, U.S. /ˈpraɪmən/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French primine.
Etymology: In sense 1 < French primine (1829 or earlier in C. F. Brisseau de Mirbel, who does not use it in sense 2) < classical Latin prīmus prime adj. + French -ine -ine suffix1. Compare tercine n. and earlier secundine n. 3. Sense 2 appears to be due to confusion with sense 1 by the translators of quot. 1875 at sense 2; the German original of quot. 1875 at sense 2 does not contain the mistaken reference to Mirbel's use of French primine.
Botany. Now disused.
1. The outer of the two integuments of an ovule, where two are present.Apparently avoided by recent writers, perhaps because of the confusion surrounding its use (cf. sense 2).
