prestoadv.n.adj.int.

Brit. /ˈprɛstəʊ/, U.S. /ˈprɛstoʊ/
Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian presto.
Etymology: < Italian presto (adverb) soon, in a short time (13th cent.), quickly, hurriedly, promptly (1353; 1555 or earlier in musical use), (adjective) quick, prompt (c1300; 1720 in musical use; the uses as noun and interjection are apparently not paralleled in Italian) < classical Latin praestō (see prest adj. and adv.).The musical uses show a separate borrowing from Italian. N.E.D. (1908), which treats the conjuring and musical senses in separate entries, gives only a non-naturalized pronunciation (pre·sto) /ˈpresto/ for the latter.
A. adv.
1. Quickly, immediately, at once; suddenly; frequently used by conjurors in various commands, as presto, be gone, etc. Obsolete.
