单词 prestly
释义

prestlyadv.

Forms: see prest adj. and adv. and -ly suffix2; also Middle English prestili, Middle English prystely.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; partly modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: prest adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: < prest adj. + -ly suffix2, partly after Anglo-Norman and Middle French prestement (in Anglo-Norman alsoprestiment) readily (early 12th cent. or earlier in Anglo-Norman), promptly (c1190 in Old French), quickly (c1260 in Old French; French prestement , now only in sense ‘nimbly’ (end of the 16th cent. in this sense)). Compare Old Occitan prestamen quickly (14th cent.; Occitan prèstament quickly, nimbly, promptly), Catalan prestament quickly (1386), Spanish prestamente quickly, promptly (mid 13th cent.). Compare earlier prest adv.
Obsolete.
1. Readily; quickly; promptly, immediately.
