Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian prestissimo.
Etymology: < Italian prestissimo (a1761 or earlier as adjective, 1770 or earlier as adverb, 1927 or earlier as noun, all in musical use), specific uses of prestissimo very quick, very quickly (c1375 as adjective and adverb), superlative of presto presto adv. Compare French prestissimo (1722 as adverb, 1784 or earlier as noun, both in musical use).
