Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French prestable.
Etymology: < French †prestable (now prêtable ) able to be lent (1606; earlier in senses ‘(of God) ready to offer forgiveness, forgiving’ (1519 in Middle French), ‘generous’ (second half of the 15th cent. or earlier in Middle French)) < prester prest v.1 + -able -able suffix. Compare post-classical Latin prestabilis performable (1620 in a British source), also prestabile (use as noun of neuter of adjective) something that can be lent (a1377 in a British source).With form prestible in quot. c1700 compare -ible suffix.
Scottish (now chiefly Scots Law).
Able to be performed or discharged; (of money, etc.) capable of being paid or advanced; payable; negotiable, transferable.
