Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: English pressé
Etymology: < pressé (in citron pressé n.). Compare French pressée (noun) quantity of fruit for extracting juice, the juice extracted (1793).The French postmodifying adjective in citron pressé was probably interpreted by English speakers as a noun with a preceding attributive noun or adjective; compare quots. 1992, 1994. (With use in quot. 1994 compare French orange pressée and jus d'orange pressé, both in sense ‘freshly squeezed orange juice’.)
A drink of fruit juice, etc., (traditionally) served fresh with ice and sugar; (now also) sold prepared with carbonated water or other additions.
