Etymology: < classical Latin pressāre press v.1 + -itant (in e.g. excitant adj., hesitant adj., visitant adj., in each case formed from present participle of classical Latin verb in -itāre (see -itate suffix). Compare post-classical Latin pressitare (1483 in a British source as prissitare ). Compare also fluitant adj., latitant adj., mussitant adj., also used by H. More).
Obsolete. rare.
Continuing to press; exerting continuous pressure.
