Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek πρό , -al suffix1.
Etymology: Irregularly < ancient Greek πρό forward (see pro- prefix2) + -al suffix1. Compare palinal adj., propalinal adj.
Zoology.
Characterized by or involving movement from back to front, esp. of the lower jaw in mastication. Contrasted with palinal. Cf. propalinal adj.
