Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin praeposterāt-, praeposterāre.
Etymology: < classical Latin praeposterāt-, past participial stem (see -ate suffix3) of praeposterāre to reverse, upset < praeposterus (see preposterous adj.). Compare Middle French preposterer, French †prepostérer (1560; < Latin).
Obsolete.
