Etymology: < classical Latin praecinctiō walkway running round an amphitheatre between the tiers of seats < praecinct- , past participial stem of praecingere to gird, encircle, to surround (see precinct n.) + -iō -ion suffix¹. Compare Italian precinzione (1521).

Roman History. Obsolete.
