Etymology: < pre- prefix + selector n., after preselect v.
1. Telephony. A switch in a telephone exchange which, when a receiver is lifted, automatically connects the calling line to a free trunk by a hunting action, independently of impulses produced by dialling. Formerly also: = line finder n. at line n.2 Compounds 2.
