Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pre- prefix, genital adj.
Etymology: < pre- prefix + genital adj. In sense 2 after French pré-génitale (H. de Lacaze-Duthiers 1852, in Ann. des sci. naturelles: zool. 17 215). In sense 3 after German Prägenital (S. Freud 1913, in Internat. Zeitschr. f. ärztliche Psychoanal. 1 528).With sense 2 compare slightly later postgenital adj.
