Etymology: < Middle French préambule or its etymon post-classical Latin praeambulum + -ation suffix. Compare post-classical Latin praeambulare preamble v.1, and later preambulate v.1, preambulate v.2, preamble v.2In quot. c1395 punning on amble v.; compare quot. c1405 at amble v. 1b. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (priˌæmbiŭlēi·ʃən) /priːæmbjʊˈleɪʃən/.
