Etymology: < post-classical Latin praeambulum preamble n. + -ary suffix1, originally after French préambulaire (1588 in Middle French; rare before the first half of the 19th cent.; now rare). Compare earlier preambling adj., preambulatory adj., and slightly later preambular adj.
