单词 prescit
释义

prescitadj.

Forms: late Middle English prescit, late Middle English prescite, late Middle English prescyt.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin praescitus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin praescitus foreknown (5th cent.), foreknown to be damned (6th cent.), use as adjective of past participle of praescire to foreknow (see prescient adj.); compare classical Latin praescītum something known beforehand, prognostication.Post-classical Latin praescitus ‘foreknown’ was apparently used in order to avoid praedestinatus predestinate adj., which was usually restricted to the positive sense ‘predestined to salvation’. Hence, praescitus came to be used in the negative sense ‘foreordained to perdition, condemned, reprobate’.
Obsolete.
Foreknown; esp. foreknown to be damned; condemned, reprobate.
