Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin praescius , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin praescius foreknowing ( < prae- pre- prefix + scīre to know (see science n.), after e.g. conscius (see conscious adj.), nescius (see nescious adj.)) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier prescient adj. N.E.D. (1908) indicates the stress as ˈprescious.
Obsolete.
