Etymology: < post-classical Latin Premonstratensis belonging to Prémontré (from c1155 in British sources), member of the Premonstratensian order (from late 12th cent. in British sources; a1508 in a continental source) < Praemonstratus , Latin form of the name of Prémontré near Laon, Île de France, where the order was founded + classical Latin -ēnsis (see -ese suffix).
Christian Church. Obsolete.
