Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Predmost.
Etymology: < Predmost (German Predmost, Czech Předmostí), the name of a village in Moravia, Czech Republic, where remains were first found in 1879.The most important finds were those uncovered by K. J. Maška and M. Kříž c1890–6. These were described by M. Kříž in Czech in Mé výzkumné práce u Předmostí a jich hlavní výsledky (1896) and in German in Beiträge zur Kenntnisse der Quatärzeit im Mähren (1903). The place name is first mentioned in English in connection with the finds in 1889.
