Etymology: < pre- prefix + distinguish v. Compare post-classical Latin predistinguere to predetermine (Vetus Latina), to distinguish or make distinct before (a1186, c1230 in British sources). Compare earlier predistinguished adj.
Now rare.
transitive. To distinguish beforehand. Also occasionally: to distinguish above all others.
