Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin praedicatorius.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin praedicatorius laudatory (5th cent.), of or relating to preaching (c1500, 1508 in British sources; 16th cent. in continental sources, frequently with reference to Dominicans) < classical Latin praedicātor (see predicator n.) + -ius , suffix forming adjectives; compare -ory suffix2. Compare French prédicatoire (a1517 in Middle French). N.E.D. (1907) also gives a pronunciation (-kei:təri) /-ˌkeɪtərɪ/ for the ending of the word.
