Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element; partly modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Greek πρᾶξις , -ology comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek πρᾶξις (see praxis n.) + -ology comb. form, partly after French praxéologie (L. Bourdeau 1882, in Théorie des Sciences II. vii. i. 463).The insertion of -e- in French praxéologie is perhaps after the Greek genitive singular πράξεως.
The branch of knowledge that deals with the nature of human action, esp. in later use as understood in economic theory by the Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises (1881-1973) and his followers.
