单词 pratal
释义

prataladj.

Brit. /ˈpreɪtl/, U.S. /ˈpreɪdl/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin prātum , -al suffix1.
Etymology: < classical Latin prātum a meadow, of uncertain origin + -al suffix1. Compare classical Latin prātālis used as pasture (in an inscription). Compare pascual adj.A tentative etymology connects the Latin word with Gaulish rate , ratis fort, Early Irish ráith , ráth earthwork, rampart, fort (see rath n.1), but since there are problems with both form and sense, this is not generally accepted.
Botany. Now rare.
In H. C. Watson's terminology: of or relating to a plant that grows in meadows or lush grassland.
