单词 postume
释义

postumen.

Forms:

α. Middle English postem, Middle English posteme, Middle English postom, Middle English postomme, Middle English postum, Middle English postym, Middle English postyme, Middle English–1500s postume.

β. Scottish pre-1700 poistrume, pre-1700 postrum, pre-1700 postrume.

Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: aposteme n.; French postume.
Etymology: Partly aphetic < aposteme n., and partly directly < Anglo-Norman postume, posteme (1354 or earlier; aphetic < apostume , aposteme aposteme n.). Dict. Older Sc. Tongue at Poistrum(e n.2 suggests that the β forms may perhaps be influenced by postern n. (see γ forms at that entry).
Obsolete.
