Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix6, critical adj.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + critical adj. In sense 1 perhaps after French acritique (1826 or earlier); compare also ancient Greek ἄκριτος that will not come to a crisis. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (ăkri·tikăl) /əˈkrɪtɪkəl/.
1. Medicine. Of a disease or symptom: occurring without a crisis; not indicative of a crisis (crisis n. 1). Obsolete. rare.Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
