Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin posterior , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin posterior (see posterior adj.; compare a posteriori adv.) + -ic suffix. Compare prioric adj., and also slightly later posterioristic adj. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (pǫstīəriˌǫ·rik) /pɒstɪərɪˈɒrɪk/.
Philosophy. Obsolete. rare.
Of a posteriori origin; empirical.
