Etymology: < Persian regional pōstīn, Persian pūstīn coat of fur or fleece < early modern Persian pōst skin, hide, pelt (see post n.⁶).The origin of the pronunciation with /ʃ/ (and hence spelling with sh) is unclear.

A coat or jacket, chiefly of Afghan origin, made of animal hide (generally sheepskin) retaining the fleece on the inside.
