Etymology: < post v.2 + -able suffix.The word cited as postable in H. J. Todd Johnson's Dict. Eng. Lang. (1818) (and following him in some other dictionaries) from Mountague is corrected in the latter's Errata to portable : 1648 W. Montagu Miscellanea Spiritualia vi. 58 Devotion doth by degrees teach us to make our peace Postable [Errata p. 58. l. 23. r. portable] upon all the tides of fortune.It is not clear whether quot. 1867 refers to this in some way, as Bonnell does not gloss or illustrate the words which he deprecates.
