单词 pone per vadium
释义

pone per vadiumn.

Brit. /ˌpəʊneɪ pəː ˈvadɪəm/, U.S. /ˈˌpoʊneɪ pər ˈvɑdiəm/
Forms: 1600s–1800s pone per vadium, 1700s– pone per vadios.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin pone per vadium.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin pone per vadium (1189 or earlier as the formula in the writ ordering the sheriff to take action; apparently not attested in this form denoting the writ itself, but compare breve de ponendo per vadium (c1260 or earlier in a legal context)) < classical Latin pōne (see pone n.1) + per through (see per prep.) + post-classical Latin vadium pledge (see invadiate v.).The form pone per vadios probably arises from assimilation to the inflections in the fuller form of the writ's opening, pone per vadium et salvos plegios (the plural of post-classical Latin vadium is vadia).
Law. Now historical (rare after 18th cent.).
A writ requiring the sheriff to secure sureties for the appearance of the defendant. Cf. pone n.1 2.The form pone per vadium is found in legal dictionaries, but pone per vadios is found in contextual examples, chiefly in the 18th cent., in both English and legal Latin.
