单词 ponasterone
释义

ponasteronen.

Brit. /ˌpəʊnəˈstɪərəʊn/, /pəʊˈnastərəʊn/, U.S. /poʊˈnæstəˌroʊn/
Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin Podocarpus , nakaii , -sterone comb. form.
Etymology: < po- (in scientific Latin Podocarpus: see podocarp n.) + na- (in scientific Latin nakaii, specific epithet (1916: see below; < the name of T. Nakai (1882–1952), Japanese botanist)) + -sterone comb. form. So called because the first ponasterones were isolated from the Japanese podocarp Podocarpus nakaii (valid publication of the species name: B. Hayata Icones Plantarum Formosanarum (1916) VI. 66).
Biochemistry.
Any of a group of steroids which act as ecdysones in various arthropods and are found primarily in certain plants, where they have a protective role against insects.
