(more fully Florida pompano) Trachinotus carolinus, a silvery food fish of inshore and nearshore waters of the tropical West Atlantic, and (more fully African pompano) Alectis ciliaris (or A. crinitus) of the tropical Atlantic and tropical eastern Pacific, which has numerous long threads projecting backwards from the dorsal and anal fins (also called threadfin).
