Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Porson.
Etymology: < the name of Richard Porson (1759–1808), English classical scholar. Compare earlier Porsonian adj.The law was first proposed in the supplement to the preface of the second edition (1802) of Porson's edition of Euripides' Hecuba.
