Etymology: < scientific Latin †Polysporea, former group name (attributed to A. Schneider; < ancient Greek πολύσπορος (see polysporous adj.) + classical Latin -ea , neuter plural of -eus : see -eous suffix) + -an suffix. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (pǫlispōə·riăn) /pɒlɪˈspɔərɪən/.
Zoology. Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.

Of or relating to the former division Polysporea of minute parasitic sporozoans whose oocysts produce a large number of sporozoites.
