Etymology: < post-classical Latin popination-, popinatio session of excessive drinking (16th cent.) < popinat- , past participial stem of popinari to frequent eating-houses (4th cent.; < classical Latin popīna eating-house: see popinal adj.) + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1; compare -ation suffix.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
A session of excessive drinking; habitual drinking.
