polypodyn.2

Brit. /pəˈlɪpədi/, U.S. /pəˈlɪpədi/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; perhaps modelled on a Latin lexical item, or perhaps modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: polypod adj., -y suffix3.
Etymology: < polypod adj. + -y suffix3, probably after either post-classical Latin polypodia (1860 or earlier) or French polypodie (1869 in Littré; also given in R. G. Mayne Expos. Lexicon Med. Sci. (1860)), both in sense ‘the condition of having supernumerary feet’ (apparently chiefly in medical contexts). Compare ancient Greek πολυποδία the condition of having many feet.
Zoology. rare.
The condition of having many feet, or more feet than normal.
