Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: poly- comb. form, -phagous comb. form.
Etymology: < poly- comb. form + -phagous comb. form. Compare classical Latin polyphagus voracious, omnivorous (see polyphage n.), Middle French, French polyphage eating much (1578).
1. Chiefly Zoology. Able to eat a variety of different foods.
