Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: poly- comb. form, Greek μέρος , -ism suffix.
Etymology: < poly- comb. form + ancient Greek μέρος part, share (see mero- comb. form1) + -ism suffix (compare -merism comb. form). In sense 1, after French polymérisme (1818). With sense 3 compare earlier polymery n. 2.
1. Medicine. The condition of having abnormal extra parts. Obsolete.
