Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: poly- comb. form, Greek μέλος , -ia suffix1.
Etymology: < poly- comb. form + ancient Greek μέλος limb (see melos n.) + -ia suffix1. Compare earlier polymely n.
Medicine and Zoology.
The congenital condition of having one or more supernumerary limbs; an instance of this.
