Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Partly a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: French porime; Greek πόριμον.
Etymology: < French porime (1691 in the passage translated in quot. 1702) and its etymon Byzantine Greek πόριμον (5th cent.), use as noun of neuter of ancient Greek πόριμος possible, practicable < πόρος passage (see pore n.1) + -ιμος, suffix forming adjectives.In form porima apparently after the ending of the Greek neuter plural.
Mathematics. Obsolete. rare.
A geometrical proposition that is so obvious as to require almost no proof.
